Mark J. Anderson
Founder & Managing Partner
Working for in-house leadership and as a Chief of Staff gave me the unique skills my clients need when formulating and executing the correct strategy to advance their objectives.
Mark Anderson is the Founder and Managing Partner of TAG Consulting Group, LLC. He offers a unique perspective to his client base, transcending issues involving oil, natural gas, electricity, natural resources, manufacturing, the environment, patents, privacy, technology, transportation, and broadband. His sixteen and a half years of government service, specifically in the United States Congress, has allowed him to hone skills that are unique and important to those who want to petition their government.
Mark’s practice is diverse, allowing him to develop strategies on a variety of issues with equal success. In 2005, he successfully worked on adding three key provisions to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT) involving the repeal of the Public Utilities Holding Corporation Act (PUHCA), creating a unique provision dealing with long-term transmission rights, in addition to waiver authority regarding petroleum transportation fuels, which is still being used today.
Mark has worked on a variety of issues during his diverse career. Whether it is advancing legislative language through a Congress opposed to his client regarding existing telecommunications law or building a coalition with the intent to change patent reform legislation, his expertise gives those he works for an edge over the competition. He has successfully incorporated language into legislation establishing boundaries for a national battlefield, as well as permanently cordoned off land for Native Americans threatened by an electric company’s 500 KV transmission line. More recently, his work expanded to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), where relationships created on Capitol Hill benefited his client, who manufactures and sells consumer fireworks.
Mark successfully built bipartisan relationships in the House and the Senate, which is an important asset when working with agencies and decision-makers. Many believe that “one party” representation is all you need to be successful. Mark understands that to succeed, you need to work with all interested parties. An example is when Mark developed a plan that advanced a controversial issue through Congress and to President George W. Bush’s desk for signature. This occurred when Congress was controlled by one party and the Administration by another.
Mark demonstrates a unique commitment to his clients, providing an objective assessment of their problems, resulting in a comprehensive strategy designed to advance their needs. His career in Congress and the private sector provides a balanced perspective clients want and deserve. Mark’s ability to bring different stakeholders together and form coalitions to advance issues is a rare talent, especially if it ends in success.
Mark is a PGA Golf Professional and maintains his membership and good standing in this prestigious organization.
